I was confused as to why you would want to type in commands rather than point and click (this became painfully obvious over time). Of the books you mention I have an old version of "A Visual Guide to Stata Graphics." by Michael N. Mitchell, and I strongly recommend it. Nick Cox's book is a collection of many of his wonderful columns in the Stata Journal called "Speaking Stata", so you can find many of them available for free to download from the Stata Journal (sorry Nick, didn't want to burst your royalties here ).
